Mike Dell buys a wad of Dell stock

Ups his stake by nearly $100 million

DELL FOUNDER and CEO Michael Dell bought nearly $100 million worth of the company's stock last week, an SEC disclosure revealed Tuesday.

The regulatory filing reported that Mr Dell acquired more than 4.5 million additional Dell shares for $99.7 million in three transactions between June 27 and July 1.

That sounds like a significant investment, but it only increases Dell's stake in the company by about two per cent of his holdings. Those additional shares increase his total interest to more than 250 million shares, directly or indirectly, or nearly 11 per cent of the company's stock, valued by Wednesday's market closing price of $22.70 at more than $5.6 billion.

Dell also holds options on more shares of the company's stock, which has rallied this spring but remains near its five-year low. µ
