Ebay baby seller case dropped

All a bit of a laugh
Friday, 4 July 2008, 09:25

THE CASE AGAINST the German family which stuck its kid up for sale on Ebay has been dropped.

The new-born boy was taken into care while humourless German coppers investigated allegation of child trafficking against the parents.

Coppers ignored the fact that the parents had stuck the advert up offering the boy for one €uro, something your average child trafficker would not do.

Prosecutor Johannes Kreuzpointer told AP that the child has been returned to his parents.

The advert, which was clearly a gag, offered the new baby for sale because it had become too loud. "It is nearly 28 inches long and can be used either in a baby carrier or a stroller".

No one placed a bid in the two and-a-half hours that the ad was online.

Otto Gaschler, deputy chief of youth services in Unterallgau said the family wasn't split up for too long and slept at the place where the boy was kept in custody.

"The parents saw the bid as a joke. It was like a game for them. They never thought that this stupid joke could have such an effect", Gaschler told AP.

Or that no one in authority had the common sense to see it was a bad joke, with a poor sense of timing. µ

Overreaction expected.

"Or that no one in authority had the common sense to see it was a bad joke, with a poor sense of timing." From my youth spent traveling though Europe, I got the feeling that a German in official position seemed to not even know the concept of joke, much less anything requiring them to actually think outside the strictest interperation of the rules. So the fact that the authorities would overreact was kind of expected. It is really strange in a way, as having had to do with many germans in less formal situations and have definitely not noticed any lack of humor or similar. It only seems to affect them when in official capacity.

Well...

you people obviously don't know what your taking about! German authorities have a great sense of humor! Don't you see, taking their kid away, locking them up and prosecuting them is just their way of being funny! I'm sure the parents where laughing the whole time, I mean with such misguided humor, how could they not?! You see, German authorities have great humor! So yes, if you are in Germany and you make a very very VERY bad and stupid joke then don't be surprised when the authorities show you in kind just how funny THEY can be. Seriously though, parents that makes such jokes aren't fit to be parents. Hopefully the parents know how lucky they are to be given a second chance.

Stupid, incorrect citation

Actually the correct citation would be "Es ist ein männliches Baby, gute 70 cm groß." 70 cm, not 28 of your idiotic "inches". 95% of the people on earth use the metric system. And the remaining 5% are just too stupid.
